As some of you may know, I have worked in various public health projects over the past several years and will continue to put my MPH to use where possible in the future. This coming year I will be involved in a program in Nicaragua that builds healthcare capacity in the rural region of San Ramon. UCSF medical students and University of Hawaii Students will be joining with the local public health clinic UCA San Ramon and the local municipal government to provide equipment and training for ambulance workers serving 32,000 people in 89 coffee farming communities. Additionally, the team will work with our local NGO contacts to develop a sustainable education program that trains community health workers in areas such as infectious disease prevention, sanitation, first aid, family planning and chronic disease management.

The project needs an additional $8,000 of funding to get off the ground- prompting me to integrate my dual interests of photography and public health for a bit of fundraising! So here’s the pitch…

For any new clients who book my services for weddings, portrait shoots, or who just want to make a donation to a wonderful cause between now and December 15th, all profits will be donated to this worthy project.

Feel free to contact me with any questions about the project, to make a donation, or to book a date between now and December 15th!

You may have noticed that my old blog has now become the homepage of my website. After much deliberation I decided to make the change for a few reasons. First off- I love the large photos and easy navigation of an HTML site/blog. I love when you can go to a website and start seeing relevent content right away, without having to click on a puny little splash page. Plus, you can also view a blog on an iPhone and other mobile internet devices, most of which don’t have the flash support needed for viewing my main portfolio site. Additionally, I thought back to the saying – “you’re only as good as your last job.” In a way it’s really true. Potential clients should look for consistency in their photographer, and the work that they produce every week. And, sure, I’m well aware of the fact that having and HTML site as the home page is helpful for search engines too.

My traditional website is still here, just click on the “Portfolio” link on the navigation bar above. Enjoy the new look!

I’m off this weekend to photograph John and Manisha’s wedding in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve just arrived and finished with day one of this four day event. We started today with the first part of the mehndi ceremony, where elaborate henna designs are drawn for the bride and other guests. Manisha did hers tonight, with the others to follow tomorrow. On Saturday there will be the raas garba ceremony at the McNay Museum of Modern Art, followed by a more western wedding ceremony on Sunday at the San Antonio Hyatt Resort. Whew! Should be fun!

I’ll be back in the Bay Area on Tuesday evening. Stay tuned for pictures, this event promises to be absolutely beautiful.

I’m back from Arizona, where I spent 5 days learning lots about photography at the Digital Wedding Forum conference at the Carefree Resort just outside of Phoenix. It was inspiring to be out talking shop with 600 other photographers, and I even made it over to Imaging USA, a huge trade show where I got to check out all the latest albums and photo equipment to make sure I’m not missing out on anything. This was fun.

And of course, not to finish with a little trip to Arizona, I’m now off to New Zealand for a 3 week trip with my dad. It’s probably been 10+ years since we had out last father-son trip, and I’m looking forward to spending some quality time together. I’ll most likely turn into a bit of a landscape photographer for the next few weeks, and I’m excited! I should have access to email fairly regularly though, so feel free to shoot me a note if you need to get in touch.

I just finished a thank you card for Courtney and Kyle. They wanted a simple, classy layout with on a folded card that would allow them to write a personalized note inside to their wedding guests. These will be folded down the middle and printed on nice thick card stock. This time of year, I suppose that they could also double as a nice Christmas Card. The front side will be 4×5.5 inches. A lot of clients do their own, but I think that these are a really cool idea, showing off a favorite picture but leaving lots of space for a personalized touch.

This year I’m missing Thanksgiving for the first time, electing to save turkeys by going to Mexico, while finishing some of the consulting work I’ve been doing with Fundación Cántaro Azul in La Paz.

I was invited to have dinner with Ian and Lili (my wonderful past clients whose wedding I did in Paris in September) and their parents, so I’m sure we’ll have plenty of fun.

Again, Happy Thanksgiving! (y con mucho espíritu mexicano;), Feliz Día de Gracias!).
