I recently had the pleasure of returning to The Brazil Room, a favorite East Bay spot in Tilden Park. And while the location was familiar, this day was anything but ordinary. Peaceful, strong, beautiful, and full of life- Jahan and Kristen’s commitment to each other on this day perfectly reflected the special bond that they share. It is rare to find two individuals so kind and warm-hearted, that from rehearsal dinner to last dance we became equally engaged by their exceedingly joyous spirits just as the dozens of friends and family have.

Thank you for the big laughs, the overwhelming warmth, and for making the process of capturing poignant moments so effortless. Thanks also to Nancy Tsai for her help and wonderful photos.

I love working at the Brazil Room in Tilden park. The little building nestled among the trees in the huge open space is a world apart from the bustling bay area just outside. It’s wonderful to roll out my front door and 5 minutes later be ready to take pictures. Of course, it gets even better with clients like Heather and Chris. I have known Heather’s family for years, since I played clarinet with her sister Lindsay in the 4th grade band, and babysat her younger brother Joel. A decade later, we’ve all grown up- and it was such a treat to see the family again. Chris and his family were a wonderful addition to the group, and a joy to meet as well.

We braved the summer heat and harsh sun for an early Sunday wedding after getting ready at the Hotel Durant in downtown Berkeley. The day was simple, but genuine and absolutely wonderful. Below are a few of my favorite shots. Thanks also to Peter H. Chang for his help during the day.

Thanks to the coordinator Leah Bertoli for her help during the day, and for the loan of the great parasols. Beautiful, and they made a great diffuser for photos in the bright high-noon sun.

Rob & Kim | Wedding | Brazil Room | Tilden Park | San Francisco

A few weeks ago I started this photographic adventure with Rob and Kim. They were married at the Brazil Room, a small building nestled away in the middle of Tilden Park near Berkeley. Living in the Berkeley Hills, this is one location that I pass by nearly every week, so it was great fun to be able to roll over to this beautiful place to share the momentous evening with Rob, Kim and their friends and family. We pulled out my umbrellas between torrents of rain, and some gusting wind to take advantage of everybodies great spirits during an exciting February day.

Rob and Kim passed on the traditional wedding cake and instead opted for a tower of decadent cupcakes. They were a real hit!

And had some fun dancing too…

With an evening ceremony, Rob and Kim decided to set their own unique schedule, and take pictures together on a separate day after the wedding. Common in the Southern US, “Bridal shoots” are my new favorite thing! We were able to wait until we had perfect San Francisco weather, ample time, and the ability to bring along the couple’s beloved third family member Ernest. We went to Chrissy Field in San Francisco where Rob and Kim often took Ernest for walks, before heading to the Presidio and then to Baker Beach. We took lots of artistic shots before heading into uncharted photographic territory for me, and all took the plunge into the chilly San Francisco Bay. My camera stayed dry, and here are some of my favorite shots.
